Oscar F. Herrera Mayorga is a Ph.D. student in Political Science at the University of Pittsburgh, specializing in comparative politics and judicial politics. His research examines judicial independence, judicial ideology, and decision-making in high courts, with a regional focus on Latin America and particular emphasis on Mexico’s Supreme Court. His broader interests include political institutions and legal and political theory.
Trained as a lawyer, he holds a J.D. from Universidad de Guadalajara, an LL.M. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a Master's in Electoral Law from the Jalisco Electoral Court in Mexico. Before joining Pitt, he served as a judicial law clerk, electoral officer, and legal counsel in both government agencies and the private sector.
