Biography

Tamar Malloy is a postdoctoral fellow in applied political theory at the University of Pittsburgh. Her research combines feminist theory, critical race theory, and democratic theory, with a particular focus on how identity is performed and policed. Her current work uses case studies drawn from law, education, and popular culture to argue that the politics of respectability have been co-opted by dominant groups as a tool to provide legal and social cover for identity-based discrimination. She received her Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2017 and was an AAUW American Dissertation Fellow.
